Tiger Tunes will be broadcast live on Saturday night

October 16, 2008

In honor of the 30th Anniversary of Tiger Tunes and the launch of the online Signal, the campus newspaper, the Signal staff is producing a live webcast of Tiger Tunes beginning at 7:25 p.m. CST on Saturday.

In addition to broadcasting all of the club shows, the Signal team will bring you behind-the-scenes interviews with cast members and special Homecoming news stories.

To view the Tiger Tunes webcast, log on www.obusignal.com on Saturday night and you’ll see at the top of the home page a headline reading “Click here for the live broadcast of Tiger Tunes.” The performance will also be available for you to view after the live performance airs if you have trouble watching it online or if your schedule doesn’t permit seeing the live performance.

If you want to keep up with the action throughout the week, log on to the Web site Thursday and Friday nights after the performances to see a newscast with clips from the shows and a rundown of who won each night’s events.

Though the university has webcast some previous events, it’s never undertaken a show as large as Tiger Tunes. There could be thousands of former students and prospective students watching the show online, so we’re breaking new ground with this endeavor. Please keep the following in mind with this pioneering effort:

• The quality of the what you see on your computer is largely dependent upon the quality of your Internet connection and how new your computer is.

• Though the mass communication department’s television production students have filmed Tiger Tunes for several years (and it’s their feed the Signal will pick up for the live webcast), this is the first time students have done a live broadcast of this magnitude. Despite a series of testing, testing again and retesting, something could go wrong. Even in the event of problems with the live feed, we do not expect a delay in posting the recorded program after the show.

• The songs performed by the hosts and hostesses during the live show will not be seen on the webcast. However, the rest of the live performance by the clubs will be broadcast on the Web. Because the host and hostesses sing the full versions of songs, in an abundance of caution, we did not want to broadcast songs for which we may not have the copyright. While the hosts and hostesses are singing, you’ll be able to see interviews with students and alumni as well as watch previously-produced segments on the various social clubs that chronicle the many hours of practice each group has had.

• We want your feedback. When you click on “Click here for the live broadcast of Tiger Tunes” at the home page of www.obusignal.com, you’ll see a written greeting and the appropriate link for you to select. Below that will be an area where you can leave a reply. We’d be interested in hearing what you thought of the broadcast, if you had a decent online viewing experience, areas where students can improve future broadcasts, etc.

You can still make Homecoming reservations online at www.obualumni.org or e-mail Lauren Land at landl@obu.edu. We can’t wait to see many of you this weekend as we celebrate Ouachita’s traditions and bright future!

  1. Would you guys post a history of Tiger Tunes Winners throughout the years sometime? If you have photos, it would be a fun photo album to go through as well.

Great job having the Signal online and webcasting Saturday’s finale live! Kudos to all involved!
