Ouachita’s alumni office has planned reunion dinners tommorow night for the classes of 1983 and 1998 in Walker Conference Center. The class of 1983 also invited the classes of 1982 and 1984 to their dinner, as they had several friends with whom they wished to share the occasion.
Around 100 people are expected at the ’82-’84 dinner and about 65 at the ’98 dinner.
“This process of working with OBU staff and our other classmates has brought back a flood of memories,” said Aaron Black, Ouachita graduate and Student Senate president for the class of ‘98.
Alumni will be sharing memories on an open mike and President Rex Horne will address both groups individually.
“They have really taken it upon themselves, and that’s what makes it work,” said Lauren Land, internal director of alumni.
For alumni, coming back to campus is a time to remember their time at Ouachita.
“I think for many of us, having been out of the bubble so long, we are really enjoying looking back on our time at OBU,” Black said. “Life gets busy and you forget so much.”
“There are so many successful and really involved alumni,” Land said. “A lot of these people have not been back on campus literally since the day they graduated. Put yourself in their shoes and help them be open to the growth of Ouachita and excited about what students today are doing and learning. If you see people walking around … they are probably alumni so strike up conversations with them.”
