Baseball Closes Season with Doubleheader Sweep of Henderson

The Ouachita Tiger baseball team ended their season with a bang on Sunday, hosting the Henderson State Reddies for the second day of the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine Series. The Tigers won the first game of the day by a score of 7-2, before closing out their year with a 3-2 win over the Reddies.

The Tigers kicked off the final day of the 2013 season with a nine inning game. The Reddies were the first ones to strike, as they came up with a run in the fourth, which they followed with a run in the fifth.

The Tigers, entering the bottom of the fifth with a 2-0 deficit, used a leadoff single, followed by an error by Henderson’s pitcher, to finally get themselves on the board. The team put together a five run inning, highlighted by a 2 RBI double from Duncan Collins, giving them a 5-2 lead going into the sixth inning.

Ouachita loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, leading to another run and a 6-2 lead late in the game. The Tigers scored again in the bottom of the eighth, on a passed ball, leading to the eventual 7-2 final score.

The second game of the afternoon ended in a 3-2 win for the Tigers, coming from a 2 RBI double and a solo home run.

Henderson got on the board first in the rubber match with a quick pair of runs in the first inning, coming on three hits.

The Tigers came up with a pair of runs later in the game, when Drew Feuerbacher recorded his second collegiate hit with a 2 RBI triple that tied the game at two. Ouachita took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the sixth, when Jace Melby hit a bomb over the left field wall.

Henderson came up in the top of the seventh and was unable to score a run, resulting in a series win for the Tigers in the Southern Bancorp Battle of the Ravine to close out the season.
