Dinner to celebrate 30 years, includes silent auction preview

October 17, 2008

Fans of all ages can celebrate Tiger Tunes’ 30th year anniversary this Saturday at a dinner to honor the tradition and reminisce about its early days.

The event in Walker Conference Center at 5 p.m. will feature hosts and hostesses, video footage of previous Tunes shows and a preview of the silent auction sponsored by the Ouachita Student Foundation (OSF).

“Anyone that is a Tunes fan is invited,” said Lauren Land, internal director of alumni. “It’s a great celebration of a tradition.”

Rick Briscoe, one of the first Tunes hosts, will be present alongside his daughter, Bethany, who is a hostess this year. She’s been called the first legacy host. Rick will share his experience and reflections at the dinner.

“I’m hoping to have a really big crowd there and just have a lot of fun,” Land said.

In addition to a dinner, Brooke Showalter, assistant director of communications, has put together some of the more memorable video clips from Tunes to play during the event. Memorabilia and photos will be displayed around the conference center to commemorate Tiger Tunes’ 30 years in action.

A preview of items for OSF’s silent auction will be at the dinner as well. The actual auction will start prior to Tiger Tunes in Jones Performing Arts Center.

“In order to kick-off our first silent auction, the Fundraising and Finance Committee of OSF hosted an online auction,” said Andrew Ford, co-chair of the committee with Kolby Harper and Brittany Gubser. “We auctioned the ‘Ultimate Tiger Tunes Package’ … which sold for $410 on eBay.”

The silent auction will feature items like a teeth whitening session with a local dentist, signed or personalized memorabilia by President Bill Clinton and Governor Mike Huckabee, a photography portrait session, art by Ouachita professors, dinner with Dr. and Mrs. Rex Horne at their home, appearances by Miss OBU and the OBU Mascots at a children’s event, a stay at the McNutt House Bed and Breakfast, the opportunity to appear in fellow OSF member Rance Collins’ next movie and the unique ability to select your own seats for 2009 Tiger Tunes performances.

“[The silent auction] is another way to help raise money and be something fun to do,” Land said. “It’s also an opportunity for friends to show support by donating items.”

Reservations for the dinner are encouraged and can be made by e-mailing Land at landl@obu.edu or calling (870) 245-5111. Tickets cost $10.

“If [you do not make reservations] you can definitely still enjoy the event,” Land said. “Just stop by to watch the video or do the silent auction.”
