Katelyn Cash crowned 2008 Ouachita Homecoming queen

Katelyn Cash from Southlake, Texas, was crowned 2008 Homecoming Queen during pre-game ceremonies at A.U. Williams Field last Saturday at Ouachita Baptist University.

Cash was crowned by Dr. Rex Horne, president of Ouachita, and 2007 Homecoming Queen, Molly Magee of Conway, Ark.

Cash is a junior Biblical studies and speech communications major. She is involved with the Campus Activities Board and was the Campus Ministries Tiger Tunes Director. She was escorted by Pat Denton and represented Eta Alpha Omega men’s social club.

The first runner-up was Paige Cate, a senior early childhood education major from Bryant, Ark. She is involved with the Welcome to Ouachita’s World Steering Committee and is the Ouachita Student Foundation Special Events Director. She was escorted by Alan Cate and represented the Ouachita Student Foundation.

The second runner-up was Bethany Whitfield, a sophomore history major from Bryant, Ark. She is involved with Student Senate and the College Republicans. She was escorted by Donny Whitfield and represented the 2008 EEE women’s social club pledge class.

Kristen Glover and Whitney Burger tied for third runner-up.

Glover is a sophomore chemistry major from Stuttgart, Ark. She is involved with Tri Chi women’s social club and the Ouachita Student Foundation. She was escorted by Keith Glover and represented the sophomore class.

Burger is a senior Christian studies major from Texarkana, Texas. She is involved with EEE women’s social club and is a Freshman Family Group leader. She was escorted by Jimmy Richardson and represented Campus Ministries.

The queen and her court were announced during pre-game activities on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m. at A.U. Williams Field. Following the coronation, the Ouachita Tiger football team took on Southern Arkansas University in a Gulf South Division II conference game. Ouachita earned a 30-14 victory against the Muleriders.

The Homecoming contestants, who were nominated by campus clubs, classes and organizations, were presented to the Ouachita student body during the weekly chapel service. Following the chapel service, students cast their ballot for their top five choices. The results were not revealed until the pre-game ceremony on Saturday.

Homecoming queen activities at Ouachita are sponsored each year by the university’s Student Senate. In addition to the field activities, the new queen and her four runners-up were introduced on stage at the conclusion of Tiger Tunes, an all-campus music and entertainment event on Saturday night.

Thirty-six Ouachita Baptist University students competed for the title of 2008 Homecoming Queen. The following students completed the field of 36:

Ariel Bealer is a senior English major from North Richland Hills, Texas. She is involved with Tri Chi women’s social club and Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society. She was escorted by Jerry Schleif and represented The Signal campus newspaper.

Abby Brumley is a senior chemistry major from Arkadelphia, Ark. She is involved with the American Chemical Society and is in the Carl Goodson Honors Program. She was escorted by Rich Brumley and represented the Elrod Center.

Sarah Casey is a senior church music major from Batesville, Ark. She is a Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Sweetheart and is in the Ouachita Singers. She was escorted by John Casey and represented Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.

Ashley Duvall is a senior Christian studies major from Arkadelphia, Ark. She is involved with EEE women’s social club and Alpha Chi National Honor Society. Ashley was escorted by Dr. Scott Duvall and represented Beta Beta men’s social club.

Megan Fida is a junior mass communications major from Plano, Texas. She is involved with EEE women’s social club and the Student Senate. She was escorted by David Fida and represented the Junior Class.

Katie Fisher is a senior Christian studies and sociology major from Dewitt, Ark. She is involved with the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team (ADAPT). She was escorted by Palmer Fisher and represented Chi Rho Phi women’s social club.

Felicia Freeman is a junior psychology major from Sparkman, Ark. She is involved with ADAPT and the Academic Enrichment Center tutoring program. She was escorted by Mitchel Freeman and represented ADAPT.

Shay Garner is a senior dietetics and nutrition major from Arkadelphia, Ark. She is involved with EEE women’s social club and is a gymnastics instructor at Gymnastics Plus. She was escorted by Randy Garner and represented the Dietetics Club.

Courtney Gibson is a senior psychology major from Superior, Colo. She is involved with Tri Chi women’s social club and the OBU Band. She was escorted by Dan Gibson and represented Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority.

Stephanie Glenn is a senior biology major from Little Rock. She is involved with the OBU Cheerleading Squad and EEE women’s social club. She was escorted by Audell Stachey and represented the OBU Cheerleaders.

Carly Hayes is a senior Christian studies major from Oak Grove, La. She is involved with the Big Brother/Big Sister program and College Republicans. She was escorted by Jim Hayes and represented EEE women’s social club.

Lauren Heasley is a senior music education major from Bryant, Ark. She is involved with the OBU Band and is a Kappa Chi Lil Sis. She was escorted by Stephen Heasley and represented Kappa Chi men’s social club.

Audra Hinson is a senior Spanish and mass communications major from Little Rock. She is the yearbook editor and is involved with EEE women’s social club and the OBU photo lab. She was escorted by David Hinson and represented the Ouachitonian yearbook.

Sarah Johnson is a junior political science and theology major from Brazil. She is involved with Tri Chi women’s social club and Student Senate. She was escorted by Stephen Johnson and represented the 2008 Kappa Chi men’s social club pledge class.

Katie Luff is a sophomore early childhood education major from Colorado Springs, Colo. She is involved with the Campus Activities Board and is in the OBU Concert Choir. She was escorted by Bob Luff and represented the 2008 Tri Chi women’s social club pledge class.

Sarah Monroe is a senior accounting major from White Hall, Ark. She is involved with the Big Brother/Big Sister program and the Ouachita Student Foundation. She was escorted by Jim Monroe and represented Chi Iota Sigma men’s social club.

Vanessa Moody is a senior mass communications major from Fouke, Ark. She is involved with Chi Delta women’s social club and the Gridiron Girls. She was escorted by Jeremy Moody and represented Rho Sigma men’s social club.

Casie Neal is a sophomore early childhood education major from Phoenix. She is involved with the Ouachita Student Foundation and is a Freshman Family Group leader. She was escorted by Keeson Martin and represented Alpha Chi National Honor Society.

Jennifer Neely is a sophomore music education major from Warren, Ark. She is in the OBU choir and is involved with Diamond Dolls. She was escorted by Ronald Neely and represented the 2008 Chi Delta women’s social club pledge class.

Linh Nguyen is a junior business management major from Vietnam. She is vice president of the International Club and is a member of the Swing Dancing Club of HSU and OBU. She was escorted by Joshua Scott Brown and represented the International Club.

Andrea Newton is a junior biology major from Hampton, Ark. She is involved with Chi Delta women’s social club and was on the Miss OBU Court of Honor in 2007. She was escorted by Rick Newton and represented the 2007 Chi Delta women’s social club pledge class.

Rachel Oswell is a senior early childhood education major from Idabel, Okla. She is President of Tri Chi women’s social club and dorm mom of Frances Crawford East. She was escorted by Jerry Oswell and represented Tri Chi women’s social club.

Hannah Pfeiffer is a freshman early childhood education major from Benton, Ark. She is involved in the Student Senate. She was escorted by Greg Pfeiffer and represented the Freshman Class.

Heather Quillman is a senior marketing and management major from Plano, Texas. She is a Rho Sigma Sweetheart and is involved with Reaching Out to Multicultural Students (ROMS). She was escorted by James Quillman and represented the 2006 Chi Delta women’s social club pledge class.

Catherine Raines is a senior mass communications major from Camden, Ark. She is involved with EEE women’s social club and the Big Brother/Big Sister program. She was escorted by Dr. Tommy Raines and represented the 2006 Beta Beta men’s social club pledge class.

Hannah Stivers is a senior biology major from Scottsburg, Ind. She is involved with the Gridiron Girls and is a Rho Sigma Sweetheart. She was escorted by Thomas Stivers and represented Chi Delta women’s social club.

Jasmine Thomas is a junior graphic design and marketing major from Little Rock. She is involved with the Big Brother/Big Sister program and is the ROMS secretary. She was escorted by Sammie Thomas and represented ROMS.

Molly Throgmorton is a senior English major from Jonesboro, Ark. She is involved with Alpha Chi National Honor Society and Elderserve. She was escorted by Jim Throgmorton and represented the Campus Activities Board.

Becca Woodall is a senior Biblical studies and theology major from Bryant, Ark. She is involved with EEE women’s social club and is Student Senate President. She was escorted by Rodger Woodall and represented Student Senate.

Lindsey Wright-Forga is a senior mass communications and musical theatre major from Glenwood, Ark. She is involved with Ouachita Sounds and EEE women’s social club. She was escorted by Ben Forga and represented the Senior Class.

Amy York is a senior musical theatre major from Dallas, Texas. She is involved with Rough Draft drama team and the theatre program. She was escorted by John York and represented Theta Alpha Phi National Theatre Honor Society.
