Lady Tigers battle to five sets, but Christian Brothers hangs on for the victory in GSC volleyball

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- It was an all-out volleyball battle on Tuesday, and Christian Brothers came up with a 15-13 victory in the final set to defeat Ouachita Baptist, 3-2, in a 16-25, 29-27, 25-21, 15-25, 15-13 Gulf South Conference volleyball victory in Memphis, Tenn. on Tuesday.

Ouachita (12-8, 1-7 GSC West) went toe-to-toe with the current No. 1 team in the GSC West in Christian Brothers (14-10, 7-1 GSC West) for the second time this season, but the Lady Bucs again came away with a 5-set victory.

The Lady Tigers again excelled with a high hitting percentage at .229, while Christian Brothers recorded a .150 percentage. Ouachita junior Libby Merritt and freshman Faith Avalos each led the way for the Lady Tigers with 12 kills, while sophomore Megan Askew added 10. NCAA national leader in digs, sophomore Allison Frizzell, recorded a match-high 35 digs, while junior Kristyn Howk added 20 and senior Kaitlyn Mitcham 18.

In the fifth set, Ouachita trailed for almost the entire set, but tied everything up at 12-12 when Askew recorded a kill and Christian Brothers was credited with a blocking error. From there, however, the Lady Bucs got back-to-back kills and escaped with a 15-13 deciding game victory.

Leading the way for Christian Brothers was Kelly Nolan with 16 kills, while Hailey Gillis (14) and Lizzie McLean (12) also contributed. Kelsey Miles added a match-high 55 assists for the Lady Bucs.

Ouachita Baptist returns to action on Thursday in Arkadelphia against Arkansas-Monticello at Sturgis Gym at 7 p.m.
