Lady Tigers pick up first Women’s Tennis victory over Southern Arkansas

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist started strong and cruised to a 9-0 victory over Southern Arkansas in a Gulf South Conference Women’s Tennis matchup at the Heflin Tennis Center in Arkadelphia on Tuesday.

Ouachita (1-6) swept doubles action to begin the afternoon, as Mariana Divardin/Tavu Fa defeated Caitlin Korensek/Felicia Carroll, 8-0 in the No. 1 spot. The Lady Tigers followed with victories in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, as Katie Potts/Lilia Sokolova topped Megan Phinny/Leslie Miller, 8-3, followed by a win from Megan Ruggles/Samantha Street via forfeit.

After a 3-0 start, Ouachita’s Divardin defeated Korensek, 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 1 position. Katie Potts and Megan Ruggles followed with 6-0, 6-0 victories over Felicia Carroll and Elizabeth Colvin for Southern Arkansas. Tavu Fa added a victory for the Lady Tigers, 6-2, 6-0 over Megan Phinny, while Samantha Street finished the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Leslie Miller. Lilia Sokolova added a victory via forfeit in the No. 6 singles spot for Ouachita.

Ouachita Baptist will travel to Russellville on Thursday, March 4 to take on Arkansas Tech at 2 p.m.
