Lady Tigers top Louisiana

September 19, 2008

With a 4-0 win over Louisiana College Sept. 12, the Ouachita Lady Tigers are starting off with a bang. With two of the four goals made by all-region returner Lauren Pierce and the other two by Lyndsey Romano and Brittany Vick, the women’s soccer team has a strong backbone.

“I could talk about all of the girls and tell you how they are helping out the team in ways that others couldn’t,” said Alex Denning, coach of the Lady Tigers. He was excited about how far his team has come. ”In the game [Friday], our defense played phenomenal.”

Denning, both the women’s and the men’s soccer coach, says there is a major difference between men’s and women’s game. “Having girls that want the best for the girl working hard next to them is huge,” he said.

He finds the players main strengths were the intangibles—what makes each girl different on the field is what makes the team so great.

Denning continued by saying he knew they still have a lot to work on because they are a new team, but that he is already seeing improvements.

“We work well as a team and that’s main focus,” he said. “We don’t have a single player to carry the rest. It can’t work that way.”

The Lady Tiger’s next game is Sunday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. at home against North Alabama. Denning and the girls are grateful for the more than 300 spectators last Friday and hope to see an even larger crowd for the next game.
