Men’s Tennis takes out another ranked opponent, downing No. 6 Cameron, 8-1

March 2, 2009

The 14th-ranked Ouachita Baptist University men’s tennis team continues to be one of the dominate NCAA Division II programs as the Tigers downed No. 6 Cameron, 8-1, Saturday at the Heflin Tennis Center.

The Tigers (7-0), much like they did against West Florida the previous day, went 2-1 in doubles action. The team of Szymon Judek and Vasek Stverka defeated Daniel Bonamigo and Thomas Piexoto, 8-3, while Jan Plewinski and Till Heilshorn beat Daniel Pazos and Diego Trojano, 8-6. Jean Charles Diame and Pierre Tafelski fell to Saman Samii and Cristian Easton, 9-8.

That would be the only stumbling block for Ouachita all day as the Tigers swept all six singles matches to get the 8-1 win.

In singles play, Tafelski defeated Trojano, 6-0, 6-1, and Heilshorn beat Easton, 6-4, 6-0. Plewinski, ranked No. 26 in Division II, downed No. 38 Pazos, 6-4, 6-4, while Diame defeated Samii, 7-6, 6-2. Daniel Moser topped Peixoto, 6-3, 6-2, and Judek completed singles action with a 7-6, 7-5 win over Carlos Viscarra..

Ouachita completes the three-day weekend against its final ranked opponent, No. 11 Drury, 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1 at the Heflin Tennis Center.
