OBU Football concludes second week of practice with a scrimmage

August 24, 2008

With a packed house in the Quintus and Betty Crews Indoor Athletic Pavilion Saturday afternoon, the Ouachita Baptist football team held a scrimmage, running about 55 to 60 plays, as the Tigers are just two weeks away from opening the season at A.U. Williams Field against Fort Lewis College.

“I was really disappointed in our conditioning,” Tigers head coach Todd Knight said. “As far as the scrimmage goes, there were a lot of positives and a lot of enthusiasm on both sides of the ball. We got to work on a bunch of situation – goal-line, red-zone, open field — and also went over an overtime period, which was a lot of fun. All-in-all, it was a really good day, just wanted to condition better, because it is getting ready to turn hot again.”

The scrimmage, which was originally scheduled to take part at A.U. Williams Field, concluded the second week of practice as Ouachita Baptist spent the majority of time in the indoor facility because of inclement weather.

“We had a lightning call right before we came out within eight miles today,” Knight said. “Our field is still really, really wet. I didn’t want us to go out there and have some injuries, especially with our scrimmage in Shreveport just around the corner. So we played it a bit safe with the field. The officials did a great job. They were able to give us timing situation’s. We had a couple of penalties, but really not a lot of penalties for 50 or 60 plays.”

The Tigers have one final scrimmage, 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 26 in Shreveport, La., before gearing up for the Skyhawks 12:00 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6. Ouachita Baptist plays host to West Georgia the following week to open Gulf South Conference action.
