OBU football opens preseason with first practice

August 12, 2008

The Ouachita Baptist football team opened camp Tuesday in the Quintus and Betty Crews Indoor Athletic Pavilion with the first practice after a few days of conditioning as the team reported on Sunday.

“It’s a lot of fun to be back out practicing,” Tigers head coach Todd Knight said. “For the first practice, I thought it was positive. The quarterbacks looked like they hadn’t missed a beat in throwing the football. We’ve got some really talented receivers. I am excited about our defensive line and our talented secondary. So there were a lot of positives for the first day.”

The Tigers, who had 90 report to camp, will continue to practice in just helmets on 4:00 p.m., Wednesday and work in shells Thursday and Friday. Ouachita Baptist concludes the week in full gear on Saturday and begin two-a-days Monday with practices beginning at 9:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The first scrimmage scheduled will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 at A.U. Williams Field and the Tigers will have its final scrimmage on the road, Tuesday, Aug. 26 in Shreveport, La.

Ouachita Baptist begins the season with back-to-back home games, starting 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6 against Fort Lewis College (Colo.) at A.U. Williams Field. The following week, the Tigers open Gulf South Conference action against West Georgia.
