OBU Women’s soccer faces uphill battle

August 8, 2008

The Ouachita Baptist women’s soccer team has nowhere to go but up after the Gulf South Conference Coaches selected Friday the Lady Tigers to finish ninth.
Ouachita Baptist, which has just returning player back from last season’s 14-4-2, received just nine votes in the poll. For the fifth consecutive season, West Florida was selected as the GSC Women’s Preseason Champion with 61 votes. Montevallo finished a close second with 58. Harding (48) and West Georgia (42) were third and fourth, respectively. Behind the Lady Wolves were UAH (32), Christian Brothers (30), North Alabama (30) and Delta State (14).

Felicia Arnold (JR, Keller, Texas), Haley Barron (JR, Flower Mound, Texas) and Emily Jackson (JR Mesquite, Texas) were tabbed as All-Gulf South Conference Top Newcomers.

The Lady Tigers, under new head coach Alex Denning, open play 3:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 at home against Drury.
