OBU Swimming continues successful week at NISC Championships

The Ouachita Baptist University men’s and women’s swimming team continued a very successful week in the pool during the third day of the New Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships Friday at the Delta State University Aquatics Cener.

In the women’s 400 IM, Katie Patterson qualified for a National “B” cut in sixth in 4:39.24. In the men’s event, Nelson Silva qualified for the “B” cut by taking fifth in 4:05.93.

In the women’s 100 Fly “A” Finals, Summer Morris placed eighth in 1:00.72, while Sarah Davis took 12th in the “B” Finals in 1:03.50. Daniel Karkoska and John Ragland were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men’s “A” Finals. Karkoska came in 49.86 with a National “A” cut, while Ragland qualified with a “B” cut in 50.33.

In the women’s 200 Free “A” Finals, Megan Young qualified for the “B” cut by placing fifth in 1:55.79. Brittany Norton was eighth in 1:58.04. In the “B” Finals, Trina May was 15th in 2:00.54, while Heidi Siner took 17th in the “C” Finals in 2:04.11. In the men’s event, Austin Teague took 12th in the “B” Finals in 1:44.87, while in the “C” Finals, Harrison Tomlinson finished 19th in 1:48.91.

Jenny Christensen qualified for the National “B” cut in the 100 Breastroke “A” Finals by capturing first in 1:05.87. Aimee Ragan was 15th in 1:14.47 in the “B” Finals and Greta James took 17th in the “C” Finals in 1:18.93. In the men’s event, Razvan Goga was third in 58.52 to qualify for the “B” cut. Hal Eubanks placed eighth in 59.13. In the “B” Finals, Matthew Pope took eighth in 59.98, while Kristian Krc was 14th in 1:01.75.

Sarah Watson finished just a few tenths of a second shy of taking first in the 100 Backstroke “A” Finals as she qualified for the “A” cut in 57.88. Megan Rishel and Ruth Megli were 13th and 14th, respectively, in 1:03.37 and 1:04.58. Max Heinze finished first in the men’s “A” finals in 50.87 to qualify for the National “A” cut. Radu Badalac was eighth in 56.32. In the “B” Finals, Kyle Tilley and Kyle Bartlett were 13th and 14th in 55:87 and 56.48.

In the women’s 800 Free Relay, the team “A” team of Young, Norton, Patterson and Watson placed fourth in 7:52.76. The “B” team of Megli, Catlin Boren, Kelly Johnson and Davis placed 12th in 8:15.24. In the men’s event, the “A” team of Silva, Will Wood, Vicente Condorelli and Badalac just missed taking first by coming in 6:49.85 to qualify for the National “A” cut. The “B” team of Karkoska, Teague, Tomlinson and Ragland were 10th in 7:03.28.

In the 3-meter women’s diving, Kelli Caldwell placed fourth with 194.30, while in the men’s 1-meter diving, Chris Hull was also fourth with a 319.60.

The final day of the New South Intercollegiate Conference Championships is Saturday with the 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly and 1,650 Free. Preliminaries to begin at 10:00 a.m., with the finals to start at 5:00 p.m.
