Nelson Silva broke a pair of school records and set two personal bests as the Ouachita Baptist University men’s swimming team rolled past rival Henderson State, 134-101, Friday night at the Duke Wells Center.
The Lady TigerSharks opened the season with a 131-97 loss to Henderson State.
Silva, who made the national cut in the 1,000 free and the “A” cut in the 200 IM, 100 back and 100 fly, set school marks in the 200 IM and the 1,000 free. The Sau Paulo, Brazil native broke Daniel Karkoska’s school record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.67 and broke Vicente Condorelli’s mark in the 1,000 with a time of 9:29.04.
Radu Badalac earned a national “B” cut in the 100 free and Razvan Goga qualified for the national “B” cut in the 100 breast.
“Overall I was very pleased with our performance against Henderson State,” Ouachita head coach Ryan Killackey said. “Our women swam excellent. Our women performed where I figured they would be at this point in the season. Our made a clear statement that we are one of the top teams in the nation, but we still have a long way to go to be where we need to be.”
On the women’s side, Sarah Watson qualified for the national “B” cut in the 100 back.
The Ouachita swimming and diving teams return to the friendly confines of Waggoner Pool 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 to take on Missouri S&T.
