OBU Swimming takes third and fourth at Championships

The Ouachita Baptist University swimming and diving teams wrapped up a four-day New South Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday as the TigerSharks were third and the Lady TigerSharks fourth at the Delta State Aquatics Center.

Ouachita’s women finished with 547 points as Truman State won the meet with 960 points. Host Delta State was second with 805 and Henderson State took third with 761 points. Behind the Lady TigerSharks was Drury with 243.

In the men’s standings, Missouri S&T captured first with 868 points, followed by Delta State with 740. Ouachita (598.5) was third, followed by Truman State (545.5), Henderson State (507) and Drury (159).

In the 1,650 Women’s Free, Caitlin Boren placed fifth in 18:12.86 and Kelly Johnson was seventh in 18:22.64. IN the men’s event, Vicente Condorelli qualified for the National “A” cut by taking third in 15:58.07. Will Wood was ninth in 16:26.88 and Nick Bass placed 17th in 17:32.15.

In the women’s 200 “A” Finals Backstroke, Sarah Watson, who already holds the record in the event in which she set in 2005, qualified for the National “A” cut by finishing first in 2:03.22. In the “B” Finals, Katie Patterson was ninth in 2:08.53, which was good for the “B” cut. Nelson Silva gave Ouachita a complete sweep in the event as he captured first in the “A” Finals in 1:50.50 to qualify for the “A” cut. Kyle Tilley and Kyle Bartlett went 10th and 11th, respectively, in 2:00.93 and 2:01.35 in the “B” Finals.

In the women’s 100 Free “A” Finals, Trina May qualified for the National “B” cut in fourth in 52.78, while Brittany Norton also qualified for the “B” cut by placing ninth in 53.47 in the “B” Finals. Also in the “B” Finals, Ruth Megli, Megan Rishel and Sarah Davis were 14th, 15th and 16th in 56.66, 57.44 and 57.52. In the men’s “B” Finals, Radu Badalac qualified for the National “A’ cut by taking ninth in 44.61. Max Heinze and Hal Eubanks, who went 10th and 11th, respectively, qualified for the “B” cut in 46.23 and 47.03. In the “C” Finals, Austin Teague was 18th in 48.36 and Harrison Tomlinson placed 19th in 48.36.

Jenny Christensen placed fifth in the 200 Breastroke in 2:29.03, while Summer Morris was eighth in 2:43.92 in the “A” Finals. Aimee Ragan took 13th in the “B” Finals in 2:45.29. In the men’s event, Razgan Goga placed seventh in 2:10.90 in the “A” Finals. In the “B” Finals, Matthew Pope was ninth in 2:08.63 to qualify for the National “B” cut.

In the women’s 200 Butterfly “A” Finals, Ksenia Gromova qualified for the National “A” cut by taking third in 2:05.85. In the men’s “A” Finals event, Daniel Karkoska was fifth and qualified for the “B” Cut in 1:54.49.

In the women’s 400 Free Relay, the “A” team placed third with a National “A” cut of 1:46.70. The “B” team placed 12th in 3:43.80. In the men’s event, Ouachita’s “A” team took third in 3:06.11, while the “B” team finished 13th in 3:14.88,

The NCAA Division II National Swimming and Diving Championships run March 11-14 in Houston, Texas.
