Ouachita Baptist University alumni to host northwest Arkansas event

September 12, 2008

Ouachita Baptist University alumni Gary and Michelle Tollett and Terri Mardis and her husband, Jimmy, will host “An Evening with Friends” on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

The evening’s event, described as “an effort to inform and engage friends of Ouachita Baptist University in northwest Arkansas,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Tolletts’ home at 2615 Carley Road in Springdale.

Ouachita President Rex M. Horne Jr., will be the featured speaker. He will be joined on the program by Ouachita faculty members and students.

The evening will feature hors d’oeuvres at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7:15 p.m.

According to Terry Peeples, Ouachita’s vice president for development, the event “is designed to remind people in northwest Arkansas that Ouachita is a significant option for Christian higher education.”

Seeking to “build on the strengths of Ouachita alumni in northwest Arkansas,” Peeples added, “It is a relationship-building and fund-raising opportunity for people in the region.”

Among major accomplishments at Ouachita, the university recently earned a pair of No. 1 rankings from U.S. News & World Report in its annual “America’s Best Colleges” survey. Ouachita was named the top baccalaureate college in the South for the second consecutive year and also was named the No. 1 “Best Schools, Best Prices” baccalaureate school in its 12-state region.

Ouachita also reported a 4 percent enrollment gain among on-campus students this fall and is in the midst of a major Student Village construction project that will house more than 500 students in state-of-the-art facilities.
