Tiger Baseball Drops Mid-Week Non-Conference Match-up With UAM

April 12, 2013

Tuesday afternoon proved to be a beautiful day for baseball at Rab Rodgers Field, as the Ouachita Tigers hosted the Boll Weevils of the University of Arkansas-Monticello. The Tigers (17-18-1) were unable to take a non-conference win though, as they fell by a score of 4-2.

The Tigers fell behind early, when UAM (26-14) found a three hit, three run inning in the top of the second. Two of their three runs in the inning came from a 2-RBI single up the middle that squeaked past the Tiger infielders, with another coming on a passed ball.

The Tigers answered the call in the bottom half of the inning, scoring a run of their own and cutting the Boll Weevil lead to just two runs. The Tigers’ second inning run came due to a single from Will Wallace that scored Landon Moore from second base.

The Tigers continued to chip away at the Boll Weevils lead in the fourth, as they recorded another run, this time coming from a fielder’s choice play that allowed Landon Moore to score on the play. Following the run and the conclusion of the inning, the Tigers trailed by a score of 3-2.

The top of the eighth found the Boll Weevils stretching their lead, when a sacrifice fly from right field allowed a runner to score. UAM recorded three hits in the inning en route to making the score 4-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, McCrae Jones led things off with a single up the right side. Landon Moore grounded into a fielders’ choice play, marking the first out of the inning for the Tigers, followed shortly by a stolen base for Moore, putting him in scoring position.

The next batter was Will Wallace, who ended up grounding to shortstop for the second out, but moved Moore to third. Parker Norris put the tying run on first base, drawing a walk, but pinch hitter Jace Melby was unable to keep the rally going, popping out to shortstop.

The Tigers were outhit in the game 10-4.

Ouachita returns to action on Friday, when they host Arkansas Tech. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
