Tigers drop rain-shorted game to Kentucky Wesleyan in seventh inning

February 19, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- A day after beating Kentucky Wesleyan 19-6, the Tigers held off the weather conditions as long as possible, before losing to the Panthers, 3-2, in a non-conference matchup at Rab Rodgers Field in Arkadelphia on Saturday.

Ouachita (2-4) had just received a home run shot from sophomore Brock Green to cut the deficit to 3-2, before both schools decided to cancel the game due to snow and wet field conditions.

The Tigers went up 1-0 after the first when Green recorded an RBI single, driving in junior Kyle Zimmerman. Kentucky Wesleyan answered back in the top of the third when Luke Garmon drove in Heath Wright to tie the game at 1-1.

Logan Neal put together a sacrifice fly for Kentucky Wesleyan in the fifth inning, as teammate Mike Witten scored as the Panthers took the lead, 2-0. Kentucky Wesleyan scored again in the sixth off of a passed ball error by Ouachita, as Lincoln Talley came in to score and put the score at 3-1.

Green led off the sixth inning with a solo home run to left field, his first of the season, bringing Ouachita to within 3-2. The game however was cancelled two batters later, as the Tigers put a runner on first base with no outs. Due to scheduling and weather conditions, the rain-shortened game will be a final and will not be resumed at a later date.

Taylor Henry (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Ouachita. Henry went 5.2 innings in allowing three runs, one earned, while striking out six and walking four. Teammate Beau Martin went .1 innings and walked a runner. Brandon Robinette picked up the victory for the Panthers, who split with Ouachita at 1-1 on the weekend.

Green finished the day at 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored for the Tigers. Freshman catcher Landon Flax finished at 2-for-2 at the plate, as senior Will Gowdy was 1-for-3 with the only other hit for Ouachita.

Ouachita Baptist returns to Rab Rodgers Field on Monday, Feb. 15 for a double header against No. 9 Central Missouri, which begins at 12 p.m.
