Arkansas Tech Victory Moves Tigers to No. 12

September 27, 2012

WACO, Tex.- Despite nine injuries and a negative four turnover margin in the game, the Ouachita Tiger football team was able to find a way to defeat the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys by a score of 31-24. The Tigers’ adversity and perseverance have been rewarded this week by the AFCA Coaches Poll, which ranks the Tigers at No. 12 in the country after they were ranked No. 13 last week.

The Tigers surpassed Washburn University, who was bumped from No. 9 to No. 20 after a 35-30 loss to Central Oklahoma. The No. 12 ranking marks the second straight week that the Tigers have received a new program best ranking since their move to NCAA Division II.

Ouachita is one of two Great American Conference teams in the AFCA Top 25 right now, as cross-street rival Henderson State currently holds the No. 17 spot.

The Tigers travel to Durant, Oklahoma on Saturday for the second straight year. The last time that the Tigers faced off against Southeastern Oklahoma State, they clinched the inaugural Great American Conference Championship.

This year’s contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. kick-off. Southeastern enters the contest with a 1-2 record, including an 0-2 record in conference play so far this season. They suffered a 56-20 loss at the hands of Henderson State in their last contest.
