Ouachita to host annual Service in Lessons and Carols

December 1, 2011

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Ouachita Baptist University will host its annual Service of Lessons & Carols in McBeth Recital Hall on Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

For 15 years, this worship service has been held annually at Ouachita. A Service of Lessons & Carols is “a traditional service that dates back to 19th century England where they developed a service that’s based on lessons, which are scripture readings, and carols,” said Dr. Gary Gerber, chair of OBU’s Division of Music.

This year, members of the Carl Goodson Honors Program will lead in the scripture readings for the event.

In addition to nine scripture readings, three Ouachita musical groups will lead the congregation in nine Christmas carols. Participating groups include Ouachita Singers, Women’s Chorus and Handbell Ringers. Dr. Jir Shin Boey, assistant professor of music, will play the organ for the event.

For more information, contact Gary Gerber at gerberg@obu.edu or (870) 245-5128.
