The Ouachita Baptist football team concluded its first week of practice Saturday with a scrimmage in full gear.
“We did a lot of 3-on-3 early in practice,” Ouachita Baptist head coach Todd Knight said. “In our scrimmage, I thought our defense took some baby steps in the right direction. If I had to give a winner today, I would give our defense the edge after today’s first scrimmage. The defense is getting better and are making some good strides.
“Zach Wright did a good job kicking field goals. I was pleased with our kickers and snappers, but overall, we need to do better punting the football.”
The Tigers, who had 90 report to camp last Sunday, begin two-a-days Monday morning with practices starting at 9:20 a.m. and 4:05 p.m.
The first scrimmage scheduled will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 23 at A.U. Williams Field and the Tigers will have its final scrimmage on the road, Tuesday, Aug. 26 in Shreveport, La.
Ouachita Baptist begins the season with back-to-back home games, starting 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6 against Fort Lewis College (Colo.) at A.U. Williams Field. The following week, the Tigers open Gulf South Conference action against West Georgia.
