Students “Release the Roar” at Tiger basketball

January 31, 2016

On Thursday, Jan. 28, crowds gathered into Bill Vining Arena to watch the Ouachita Tigers take on the “other OBU,” the Oklahoma Baptist Bison. The home side of the arena was packed with students dressed in all kinds of costumes anticipating one of Tiger basketball’s greatest traditions, Release The Roar.

After the singing of the National Anthem, all students were told to sit down and be quiet at the start of the game.  No cheering on the Tigers, no booing the other team, just silence.  That is, until Ouachita scores ten points.  As the tenth point is made, Tiger fans proceed to “Release the Roar” and go insane, shaking the arena and confusing the other team.

With their fans cheering them on for the remainder of the game, the Tigers defeated the Bison 78-66, giving them their eighth straight win.
