OBU’s Sharp hires Denning to head men’s and women’s soccer coach

December 8, 2008

Ouachita Baptist University Director of Athletics David Sharp announced Monday the hiring of Alex Denning as head men’s and women’s soccer coach after spending one season as the interim head coach for both programs.

“We look forward to coach Denning continuing the responsibilities of head coach of our programs,” Sharp said. “His enthusiasm and hard work will help him in continuing to build the soccer programs at Ouachita.”

Denning was an assistant coach at Arkadelphia High School for three years. He was a head coach at Alexander Galt Regional High School in Quebec, Canada and also an assistant coach at Bishop’s University Club in Quebec.

Denning played soccer in Dallas, Texas and came to Ouachita Baptist University in 2003, only to see his career abruptly end due to a knee injury.

“It is an honor to be named head coach after having spent a season as interim head coach,” Denning said. “I am excited about the direction of the programs and look forward to continuing to build the programs here at Ouachita.”
