September 12, 2008

Lauren Pierce scored a pair of goals and added an assist as the Ouachita Baptist women’s soccer team started the season with a 4-0 victory over Louisiana College Friday at the OBU Soccer Complex.

Pierce, the lone returning player off last year’s regional team, scored in the 45th minute and in the 60th minute.

The Lady Tigers (1-0) broke the scoreless tie in the 24th minute as Emily Jackson received the ball from Pierce and slid it past Lady Wildcats goalkeeper Carla Lambert for the goal. Pierce gave Ouachita Baptist a 2-0 advantage in the 45th minute off an assist by Lyndsay Romano and Amanda Glenn.

Pierce scored on an unassisted goal in the 60th minute and rounding out the scoring was Brittany Vick, off a perfectly fed ball by Jackson in the 74th minute.

The Lady Tigers had 18 shots and nine corner kicks. MaryBeth Shaddix and Katie Osment split time in goal with neither recording a save. Louisiana College (0-4-1) had one shot. Lambert finished with 11 saves.

Ouachita Baptist plays 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21 to open Gulf South Conference action against North Alabama at the OBU Soccer Complex.
