OBU Tennis blanks Christian Brothers in season opener

In what was suppose to be the second match of the season Saturday, turned into the opening match for the defending Gulf South Conference West Division Champions as the Ouachita Baptist University men’s tennis team who had their first match of the year against UAPB postponed Friday, rolled past Christian Brothers, 9-0, Saturday morning at the Heflin Tennis Center.

Ouachita (1-0) was so dominate that it didn’t allow the Buccaneers to record a point in doubles and singles action.

In doubles play, the teams of Jan Plewinski and Szymon Judek defeated Anthony Eddy and Clifton Gibbs, 8-0, while Jean Charles Diame and Pierre Tafelski blanked Keith Wyrick and Aaron Michael, 8-0. Mike Basler and Judek won their match by default.

In singles competition, Plewinski, ranked No. 26, blanked Corry Franklin, 6-0, 6-0 and Till Heilshorn defeated Eddy, 6-0, 6-0. Diame and Tafelski topped Gibbs and Wyrick, respectively, 6-0, 6-0 and Judek beat Michael by the same score. Daniel Moser won his match by default.

The Tigers return to action 6:00 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19 to take on Tyler Junior College at the Heflin Tennis Center.
