Swim teams dominate rival Henderson State

The Ouachita swimming and diving teams dominated rival Henderson State Friday night in the “Dual in the Pool” meet at Waggoner Pool as the men routed the Red Wave, 158-79, and the women cruised to a 136-94 victory during Senior Night.

Ouachita was so dominating in the pool that the TigerSharks and Lady TigerSharks captured first in 21 of the 26 events.

The Lady TigerSharks got things started in record fashion in the 400 medley relay as the team of Sarah Watson, Jenny Christensen, Brittany Norton and Trina May broke a pool record in a time of 3:58.33. Watson’s 100 back split on the relay also broke a school record in 58:10.

In the men’s event, the “A” team of Nelson Silva, Hal Eubanks, Daniel Karkoska and Max Heinze placed first in the 3:28.96, while Silva’s 100 back split also setting a pool record in 50:27. The “B” team of Kyle Bartlett, Razvan Goga, John Ragland and Austin Teague took third in 3:38.23.

In the third event of the night, Katie Patterson cruised to a victory in the 1,000 free in 10:48.41. While in the men’s event, Ouachita took all three top spots as Vicente Condorelli took first in 9:51.80. Will Wood (10:04.61) and Matthew Pope (10:21.67) were second and third, respectively.

Megan Young (1:56.72) and Brittany Norton (1:59.29) went first and third in the 200 free and Silva (1:44.36) and Nathan Bercaw (1:50.04) also were first and third in the event.

In the seventh event of the evening, Ouachita went first and third again as newcomer Ksenia Gromova, who earned a national B cut, placed first in the 50 Free in 24.66. May was third in 25.19. In the men’s event, Radu Badalac and Hal Eubanks went one-two in 20.84 and 21.51, respectively.

Watson and Summer Morris went first and third in the 200 IM in 2:10.12 and 2:19.08. Karkoska and Kristian Krc were first and second in the event in 1:55.74 and 2:01.37.

In 1-meter diving, Kelli Caldwell placed first in 232.96, while Chris Hull was third in 221.33.

Gromova added to her night another national B cut in the 100 fly by taking first in 58.04. Silva and Heinze went first and second in the men’s event in 51.33 and 52.49.

In the 100 free, Norton and May were second and third in 54.00 and 55.50, while Karkoska (46.82) and Krc (49.14) took first and third in the men’s event.

Patterson was second in the 100 back in 1:01.20. Badalac and Bartlett were first and third in 50.68 and 55.65.

Megan Young captured first in the 500 free in 5:18.83, while on the men’s side, Will Wood (4:48.95), Condorelli (4:49.35) and Bercaw (5:03.89) swept the event.

In 3-meter diving, Caldwell took first in 237.68, while Hull was third in the men’s event in 187.73.

Christensen captured first in the 100 breast in 1:08.06, while Goga (58.60) and Pope (1.02.10) went first and third in the men’s event.

Ouachita went first and third in the 400 free relay’s in both teams.

Gromova, Young, Patterson and Watson placed first in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.27, while the “B” team of Ruth Megli, Sarah Davis, Megan Rishel and Morris was third in 3:52.73. On the men’s side, the “A” team of Badalac, Wood, Heinze and Krc took first in 3:11.30. The “B” team of Kyle Tilley, Condorelli, Bercaw and Harrison Tomlinson came in at 3:21.57.

“This meet was a true test to see if our women were able to overcome first semester’s loss to the Red Wave,” Ouachita head coach Ryan Killackey said. “We came out guns blazin and captured first placed in 11 of 13 events.”

The TigerSharks and Lady TigerSharks will head to Cleveland, Miss. to compete in the NSISC Championships, Feb. 11-14.
