First Baptist Church shows inspirational film ‘Fireproof’

February 10, 2009

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, many thoughts are geared toward romance and relationships. First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia will host Dinner and a Movie, featuring “Fireproof,” Saturday, Feb. 14.

“Fireproof” is a Christian-based movie focused on one man’s effort to save his marriage.

Ardith Franklin, FBC’s program administrator, is organizing the event. She believes the movie can help every relationship.

“It’s more than just about marriage,” Franklin said. “It’s about relationships with other people and with God.”

Franklin stresses that the event is for everyone, not just married couples.

“Any relationship can be improved by the way you respond,” Franklin said.

Junior Adam Wheat has already seen the movie, and agrees with Franklin.

“God really spoke to me through this film about a deeper commitment not only in my relationship with Him but my other relationships as well,” Wheat said. “It also helped me realize the games we often play with the opposite sex and how much heartache can be caused from a lack of candidness about who we are.”

Franklin thinks that how you feel after a movie is important.

She felt inspired after watching “Fireproof.” She believes movie-goers will be “inspired to make all relationships better.”

Wheat believes anyone who has ever even thought of being in a relationship should see “Fireproof.”

“This movie is very important in today’s culture when love has come to mean a fun, fuzzy feeling instead of the serious commitment that it is,” Wheat said.

Dinner and a Movie begins at 5:30 p.m. in FBC’s fellowship hall.

Dinner will cost $15 per couple and $8 per individual, with reservations made before Feb. 11. Dinner will consist of parmesan crusted chicken breast, party potatoes, Tuscan tossed salad, rolls and brownie sundaes.

The movie is free, and reservations are not required. It will start at 6:30 p.m. and free childcare will be provided.

Reservations can be made by calling the church office at (870) 246-5587. FBC is located at 623 Pine St.

“Fireproof your marriage,” a six-week Bible study, will begin Sunday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m. as a follow-up to the movie. It will be hosted by Casey and Lori Motl.
