First time in history: OBU Men’s Soccer debuts at No. 6 in NCAA Regional Rankings

ARKADELPHIA- After a furious start to the 2010 season, the Ouachita Baptist men’s soccer program debuted at No. 6 in the NCAA Men’s Soccer South Regional Rankings, officials announced on Tuesday.

Ouachita (4-2) is the lone school in the top-10 of the regional rankings not from the state of Florida. Leading the way is No. 1 Lynn (5-1), followed by Rollins (3-1-1), Barry (3-0-2), Saint Leo (5-1-1) and Tampa (4-2) at No. 5.

Among the victories for Ouachita, include a 2-0 victory over No. 7 Palm Beach Atlantic, as well as a non-conference victory over Gulf South Conference opponent Harding, 4-1. The other victories on the season came over LeTourneau (3-1) and Texas Wesleyan (3-1).

Leading the way offensively for Ouachita are sophomores Rizvan Ceka and Sergiu Postolache, who both have a team-high four goals in 2010. Senior Alex Tonrey and sophomore Payam Pourjavad each have a team-high three assists on the season, while freshman keeper Grayson Townsend has recorded 17 saves in six matches.

The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 22 against Texas College in Arkadelphia at 4 p.m.
