Parents’ Weekend Returns to Campus

September 26, 2013

Ouachita Baptist University’s Student Senate will host Parents’ Weekend this upcoming Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 28-29. All Ouachita parents are invited to attend.

“We want parents to know that by sending their children to Ouachita they become a part of the Ouachita family as well, whether they are alumni or not,” said OBU Student Senate President Lindsey Fowler, a senior political science, business administration/finance and history major from Arkadelphia, Ark.

The weekend events will begin Saturday at 2 p.m., outside of Ouachita’s A.U. Williams Field. Parents are invited to tailgate and get acquainted with the Ouachita community. The freshman class will have their own tailgate for the first time this year, providing parents of new students an opportunity to meet their children’s friends, roommates and families.

After tailgating, parents and their students are encouraged to attend the football game against Southeastern Oklahoma State University, the Tigers’ first home game of the season. Kick-off is at 6 p.m., and admission is $3.

Parents’ Weekend will wrap up Sunday afternoon as Ouachita President Rex Horne and his wife, Becky, host an ice cream social in the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room. Fowler said the social will be a time for parents to get to know some of the faculty and staff members who are working with their students while they are at their second home.

This will be the first Parents’ Weekend hosted by Ouachita in several years. “Parents’ Weekends are a common occurrence at other schools on game days but something that Ouachita was lacking; we decided to give it a try this year,” Fowler said.

For those traveling from out of town, two hotels in the Arkadelphia area, Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn & Suites, will offer a discount for anyone attending Parents’ Weekend at Ouachita.
