OBU students can gain resume writing skills at Feb. 15 workshop

February 5, 2013

Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Career Services will host “Future Focus: Resume Writing 20.13” on Feb. 15. The workshop, provided for current students to enhance their resume writing skills, will be held in the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room beginning at 12:10 p.m.

Lauren Land, director of career services, will begin the workshop with a quick resume overview. Joining Land will be Tiffany Eurich, OBU instructor of communications, who will present various techniques for creating an online resume. Eurich uses the online resume/portfolio technique in her online design class and has had great success with this. She will explain to the students at the workshop the importance of having a visual way to market yourself to future employers.

“I think it’s critical that students know how to market the skills they’ve developed through hard work and persistence,” Eurich said.

Kristen Barnard, a junior mass communications major from Hot Springs, Ark., will also talk to students about how she created her online resume and website. Barnard explains that “most people have useful skills, experiences and accomplishments that are appealing to employers but lack the ability to effectively market themselves and stand out among the rest.”

The workshop is designed so that students can bring their lunch to the event. It will conclude by 12:50 p.m. so students can make it to their 1 p.m. classes.

For more information on the workshop or other services offered by the Office of Career Services, contact Lauren Land at landl@obu.edu or (870) 245-5593.
